Let's continue the forward momentum in Deanwood!
As a six term Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC) for Single Member District (SMD) 7C07 in Deanwood, I have been focused on City Services, Education, Economic Development & Public Safety. For my efforts, I won an OUC Award for most 311 tickets placed in Ward 7 in 2017 and a Community Cornerstone Award for Public Service from Councilmember Bonds in 2020.
As Chair of ANC7C, I have collaborated with the all of our Neighborhood Associations, Main Street Organizations, WMATA, UDC, Events DC, DCPS, DPR, DCPL, DGS, DDOT, DOES, DCRA, and many other District Agencies to connect constituents to available services & programs.
As an ANC Commissioner, I continue to utilize various methods to make myself available to my constituents and disseminate District Agencies' information. Prior to COVID-19, ANC7C pioneered audio and video conferencing to improve community participation.
Worked with DDOT and DCA to address traffic safety issues throughout Deanwood and ANC7C. Worked with MPD and the Mayor's Office to address crime issue. Worked with DPW to address illegal dumping, abandoned cars and maintaining public area cleaning.
Mandated developers and business owners to work with the Deanwood Citizens Association (DCA) to develop CBAs, Construction Management Agreements (CMAs) and Settlement Agreements that would provide community benefits and employment opportunity for Deanwood residents.
Worked with DCA and WMATA to disposition Deanwood Metro parking lot to build new full-service Library and commercial space for Grocery Store. Worked with DC Council and DMPED to support eminent domain legislation to advance the development for a new Grocery Store at Capitol Gateway Marketplace. Worked with MBI and DCA to support the establishment of the 1st 24/7 Urgent Care Center in Deanwood.
Partnered with DCPS to implement the highly sought after Spanish/English Dual Language program at Houston Elementary.
Worked with DC Council and DCPS to move Houston Elementary's modernization schedule early and requested more funds to increase the scope of the project.
Partnered with DCPS to reopen Ron Brown into a High School for Young Men of Color. Worked with DCPS and DGS to create employment opportunities for Deanwood residents and long-term contracts with Deanwood CBEs.
